H.E. Ambassador Shane Flanagan

On behalf of the Australian Embassy in Qatar, I am pleased to witness the launch of the Australia Qatar Business Association (AQBA), which will work to strengthen and promote our commercial relationship. Two-way goods and services trade between Australia and Qatar totalled more than $3.4 billion in 2023, making Qatar Australia’s second-largest trading partner in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Since the opening of our embassy in 2016, we have worked hard to encourage more Australian businesses to pursue opportunities in this prospective market. Australian exports of goods and services to Qatar have achieved a strong five-year trend of growth of 5.8 per cent. With around 3,000 Australians living in Qatar and almost 40,000 visiting every year, the launch of AQBA therefore comes at an opportune moment. The embassy will be working closely with the association to propel this economic development further. By becoming a member of AQBA, you take advantage of these investment and business opportunities and join us in this path of outstanding development.

Chair Justin Kerr-Stevens

I’m pleased to welcome you all to the Australia Qatar Business Association (AQBA), where we provide networking opportunities to promote trading relations between Australian and Qatari businesses. As a long-term resident of Qatar and a proud Australian, it’s been exciting to watch economic relations between these leading players grow over the past decade. With a two-way goods trade amounting to $30 billion, Qatar is the second most major partner for Australia in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Qatar’s economic expansion hasn’t slowed down since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the country is on track to see even greater returns through its ambitious development plan, the Qatar National Vision 2030. Australia, a nation which has undoubtedly shaped the future of engineering and construction in Qatar, has already shown its support for this vision. As a lively, yet secure location for investors, which offers world renowned innovations and products, Australia stands as a lucrative business hub for Qatar. To develop this relationship further, I’m thrilled to be working alongside key players like H.E. Ambassador Shane Flanagan to strengthen existing economic ties between Qatar and Australia. Through becoming a member of AQBA, you can be a part of this growth.

Regards, Justin Kerr-Stevens Chair, AQBA

I am very excited to be part of the launch of the Australia Qatar Business Association (AQBA), an initiative aimed at fostering stronger bilateral and trade relations between our two nations. As both a long-term resident of Qatar and an Australian citizen, I have seen firsthand the growth of this vital economic and cultural partnership. Qatar stands as a key partner for Australia in the Middle East, with significant opportunities in sectors such as construction, energy, and technology. AQBA serves as a platform for business leaders from both countries to connect and expand their networks, thereby enhancing economic ties. As Qatar progresses under its National Vision 2030, we are proud to contribute to this ongoing development. We invite you to join AQBA and take advantage of the exclusive opportunities and connections it offers. We are confident that our members will benefit from this association for years to come.
